Timm Ulrichs receives the 12,000 Euro prize from the Akademie der Künste

In the year of his 80th birthday, the Berlin-born artist is honoured for his life's work, which has been a treasure trove and source of inspiration for subsequent generations of artists to this day. The award ceremony and opening of the The exhibition will take place on 23 January in the Akademie building on Hanseatenweg.

The jury, consisting of the academy members Ute Eskildsen, Wulf Herzogenrath and Gregor Schneider, emphasizes that "Timm Ulrichs, far away from the art centers, tirelessly invented his encyclopedia of ideas as an autodidact. As a self-proclaimed 'total artist' he works in various genres. With his wealth of ideas, he does not pursue a continuous concept, but seeks originality in every single idea. The sheer mass and diversity of these diverse ideas is unparalleled." The jury is pleased that the award of the Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2020 to Timm Ulrichs, whose wealth of ideas has long since been overdue, is a tribute to him. Ulrichs is an artist, former university lecturer and critical observer of the scene, who is a has led to an inappropriate existence beyond the mainstream and the art market. His political actions serve as a model for a younger generation.
