* 1949 Adelaide, AUS

Richard Tipping is an Australian poet and artist. Adelaide-born and raised, he now lives and works in both Newcastle and Sydney. Since 1978 he has held solo exhibitions in many Australian cities as well as in London, New York, Cologne, Munich and Berlin. The artist is well known internationally for textual interventions using public sign templates, which are often both poetic and political, displaying his disctinctive wit and humour. He also works with typographic concrete poetry as large-scale public art, as well as with printmaking, photography, and sculpture in materials including granite, neon, bricks, steel and wood. Tipping is also known as a spoken word poet, with six books published, and has produced a series of film documentaries about writers. He has three degrees, including a doctorate from the University of Technology Sydney. Ex- amples of his screenprinted 'artpoems' are in collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the British Museum in London, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney and the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra. Apart from all that, he's an OK bloke.
